Oak, Walter E.

Walter Edson Oak, a resident of Hyde Park for the past 35 years, and formerly of Dorchester, died Monday, December 22nd, 2008 at the Parkwell Nursing Home in Hyde Park.  He was 89.  Walter was born October 18, 1919 in East Boston, the only child of Edson and Lillian (Whittendale) Oak.  He graduated from East Boston High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree from Boston University.  He served in the army during World War Two.  Walter was an amateur photographer, and a member and Past Master of Raboni Lodge AF & AM of Needham, and a Past Patron of Samoset Lodge OES of Norwood.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Ethel (Cogswell) Oak.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, Dec 26th from 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Walter’s funeral will be Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home followed by burial in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton with military honors.  Donations in his memory to the Shriner’s Burns Institute, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 would be appreciated.

Estano, Richard F.

Richard F. Estano, a resident of Quincy died Saturday December 13th, 2008 at Faulkner Hospital. He was 59. He was born in Boston, a son of the late Richard C. & Louise F. (Sullivan)  Estano. He grew up in Weymouth and graduated from the Weymouth Vocational Technical High School.  Rick entered into the Sheet Metal workers union and worked in the field for Cox Engineering till the mid 1970’s. He then went on the road working in the concert music industry. Rick worked with Crosby, Stills & Nash, Joni Mitchell, the Beach Boys and Neal Diamond. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and spending time with friends. He was the big brother of John A & Stephen G. Estano, both of Weymouth, Janet Brock of Bridgewater and the late Mary Estano, and the dear uncle of Jason Estano, Kristina Brock, Megan VanAtta, Ryan & Adam Estano. The father of 3 sons, he shares the same date of death with his son David J. Estano 37 years later. Rick enjoyed the ultimate friendship of Gail Calhoon Bongazone of Weymouth, and his childhood friend Robert “Bones” Schleiff.  Visiting hours will be held Friday December 19th from 4 to 7 PM at Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 7pm.  Burial will be private. Donations in Rick’s memory may be made to the Anchor Inn MTHP, c/o Pine Street Inn, P.O. Box 240, North Quincy, MA 02171.   

Oulton, Sabra

Sabra Oulton, a resident of West Roxbury, and formerly of Dedham,  died Thursday, December 11th,  at the Deutsches Altenheim.  She was 88.  She is survived by her sister Ruth Crawford of OR, her longtime friend Mary Coffey of Dedham, and many nieces and nephews.  Sabra was a much loved surrogate aunt of the late John J. Thompson, Eaton R. “Tom”

Eaton Rees “Tom” Thompson, a resident of East Falmouth for 25 years, and formerly of Weymouth and Hanover, died Friday, December 12th, 2008 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood.  He was 82.  Tom was born July 6, 1926 in Weymouth, a son of the late Porter W., and Ada Louise (Bower) Thompson.  He worked as a handiman, and as a repairman for Building 19 in Hingham.  He loved animals, especially his horse, Duchess.  Tom is survived by his brother, Richard Thompson of Westwood; his sisters, Carolyn Wissinger of Wilton, Connecticut, and Joanna L. Davenport of Oakland, California; and many nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Service in being planned for next Spring.  In lieu of flowers donations to Angell Memorial Animal Hospital, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, 02130 would honor Tom’s love of animals.

Blakeney, Helen

Helen Frances (Nolan) Blakeney, of Dedham, died Friday, December 12th, 2008 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.  She was 78.  Helen was born December 31, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late John and Esther (Ashpont) Nolan.  She worked as an Inspector for Polaroid Corporation, and was a member of the Mosose Lodge.  She was the wife of the late Arnold George Blakeney, and she is survived by her son, Arnold G. Blakeney Jr., of Dedham; her daughters, Jean Pittsley of Assonet, and Carol Holley of North Collins, NY; her brother, Edward Nolan of New Hampshire; her sisters, Dorothy Turner of Wareham, Catherine Brackett of Wisconsin, Ann Nolan of Mansfield, and Lillian McKenna of Quincy; as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  Helen’s visiting hours were Monday, December 15th from 4-8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham.  Her graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec 16th at 10 AM at Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.

Littleton, Karl

Karl Norman Littleton, of Dedham, died Thursday, December 11th, 2008 at the Clark House in Westwood.  He was 89.  Karl was born October 3, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts, a son of the late William H., and Ida (Hurlebaus) Littleton.  He was a WW2 veteran who served in the Coast Guard.  Mr Littleton worked for 36 years as a Parole Officer in Suffolk County for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He was a member of the Retired Men’s Club, and VFW Post 2017 in Dedham.  He was the husband of the late Ann Virginia (McCormack), and the brother of the late Earle Littleton, William M. Littleton, and Evelyn Mitchell.  He is survived by his son, William A. Littleton, and his wife Susan, of Worcester; his daughter, Diane Rockwood, and her husband Chris, of Dedham; and his two grandchildren, Justin Cowley of Dedham, and Katherine “Katie” Littleton of Worcester.  Visiting hours were held Sunday, Dec 14th from 4-8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  His funeral Service was Monday, Dec 15th at 11 AM at the Allin Congregational Church.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High Street, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated

Dyott, Alfred

Alfred Louis “Dee” Dyott, a resident of West Roxbury for 35 years, died Tuesday, December 9th at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston.  He was 78.  Dee was born June 9, 1930 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a son of the late Alfred and Mary (Almeida) Dyott.  He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School and served in the Army Air Force.  He worked as a painter for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 28 years until his retirement in 1992.  Dee was a member of  American Legion Post 18 of Dedham.  He was an avid gardener, a gemologist, and rock collector, and he enjoyed his tropical fish.  He is survived by his wife, Kathryn E. (MacKinnon) Dyott; his sons, Alfred J. Dyott of West Roxbury, and Adam C. Dyott of Hyannis; his daughter, Lisa M. Miller of Littleton, Colorado; his sister, Beverly Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; and his four grandchildren, Abigail, Jake, Brady, and Kristi.  He was the father of the late Andrew Dyott, and the brother of the late Jeannette Scherer and the late Joan Dyott.  Visiting hours will be held Sunday, December 14th from 2-6 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Relatives and friends will gather at the Funeral Home Monday at 9 AM and proceed to St. John’s Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington Street, West Roxbury for his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o clock.  Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury,  In lieu of flowers donations to Rosie’s Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118 would be appreciated.

Hansen, Edward

 

Edward R. Hansen, a resident of Westwood for 40 years, and formerly of Wisconsin, died tragically December 9th in a pedestrian accident in Westwood.  He was 78.  Edward was born December 19, 1929, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, the youngest child of Burton and Anna (Roalkvam) Hansen.  He graduated from St Olaf College in Minnesota with a degree in engineering, and served in the US Army as a corporal during the Korean War.  He worked as a quality control engineer for Gillette for over 35 years.  Mr. Hansen is a past member of the Westwood Finance Commission, and a current member of the Board of Trustees of the Westwood Public Library.   He has sung in the choir at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church for 50 years, and is a member of the Sons of Norway, the Kingswood Association, a member of the American Society of Quality Control Engineers, and a member of the Fin, Fur and Feather.  Edward is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eunice Irene (Thelander) Hansen; his son, Steven E. Hansen of Shrewsbury; his daughter, Kristin M. Haroian of Windham, New Hampshire; and his seven grandchildren, Sean, Meghan, Rebecca, Carl, Edward, Thomas, and Jeremy.  He was the father of the late Karen E. VanHerwarde, and was predeceased by his six brothers and sisters.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, December 12th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood.  His funeral service will be Saturday at 9 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick St., Norwood, followed by burial in Old Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.  In lieu of flowers donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.

Dempsey, Martha L.

Martha L. (Bowman) Dempsey passed away at her home on December 1st  with her family by her side.  She was 84.  Born in Boston, Mrs. Dempsey resided in Dedham for over 50 years.  During that time she was a faithful and active member of the Allin Congregational Church and held office on many of their committees.  She was a former member of the Dedham Garden Club and the Dedham Women’s Club.  She was the beloved wife of the late Welman H. Dempsey and together they raised 6 children.  Her greatest joy in her life was her large and loving family, and she enjoyed creating traditions with them that would become her legacy. Every summer she looked forward to riding the carousel at Nantasket Beach with her children and grandchildren.  After moving to Linden Ponds in Hingham, Mrs. Dempsey became active in that community as well.  She enjoyed reading (especially biographies), and listening to classical and big band music. Mrs. Dempsey was the loving mother of Linda Dempsey of Weymouth, Leslie Brousseau and her husband Steve of Georgia, Laurie Hall and her husband Jim of Scituate, Scott Dempsey of South Carolina, Steve Dempsey and his wife Keri of Georgia and the late Susan D. Baer.  She was the dear sister of Frederick Bowman of Jamaica Plain. She was the cherished grandmother of Megan, Lauren, Erin, Justin, Gregory, Drew, Grace, Lily, Ryan, Alexandra, Jack, Brianna, Katie and Julia.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 10 AM at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., Dedham. Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, Martha asked that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250,Dallas, TX 75244.

Alberto, Johanna

Johanna (Greenlaw) Alberto, of Norwood, died Monday, December 8th, 2008 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood.  She was two weeks shy of her 93rd birthday.  Johanna was born December 19, 1915 in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Harry and Mary (Jones) Greenlaw.  She worked as a waitress at the Washington Gardens in Dedham, at Cornetta’s Iron Horse in Norwood, at Terri’s Diner in Dedham Square, and she was the former owner of the J & J Cafe in East Dedham.  She worked part-time at Polaroid until her retirement in 1980.  Johanna was the wife of the late John P. Alberto who predeceased her in 1971 and the sister of the late Harry Greenlaw, the late William J. Fitzpatrick, and the late Mary O’Malley.  She is survived by her son, John R. Bamberry of Moultonborough, New Hampshire; her stepchildren, Mary Kolz of Thornton, New Hampshire, Lorraine Brackett of Norwood, and John F. Alberto of Plymouth; her brother, Edward J. Fitzpatrick of Norwood; her grandchildren, Lynne Young of Wayland, Susan DeFelice of Windsor, Vermont and Steven Bamberry of Westwood; and her great grandchildren, Cole Young and Emily Bamberrry.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  A graveside service will be held Friday at 9 AM at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.  Donations in her memory to the Home for Little Wanderers, 161 South Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 would be appreciated.
