Montague, William P.

William P. Montague, a resident of Dedham for over 50 years died  September 22, 2009 at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He was 85. Bill was born in Boston, the son of the late Joseph E. & Nora E. (Gorman) Montague. He graduated from Antelope County High School in California. Bill entered the Army in March of 1943 and was honorably discharged in November of 1945. He served with Company F of the 15th Infantry Division during World War II and received 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. After his military service he worked for the United States Postal Service for 15 years in Boston. Bill was a Supervisor Hearings Officer for the Registry of Motor Vehicles on Nashua St. in  Boston for 32 years, retiring in June of 1989.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post #42 in Dedham, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Society of the Third Infantry division of the United States Army, the Anzio Beachhead Veterans of World War II and the Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Inspectors Association. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Theresa C. (MacDonald) Montague of Dedham; his children Edward J. Montague of Santee, CA, Gail Montague Schober of Plymouth, Stephen Montague of Albuquerque, NM, and Wayne T. Montague of Chicago, IL; his sister Lillian Flanigan of Venice, FL; 8 grandchildren and  6 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his brothers James, Leo, John and Lawrence Montague, and his sisters, Josephine Sauve and Dorothy Sauve. Visiting hours will be held Friday 4-8 pm at Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham. Funeral services Saturday at 10 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Fairweather, Nancy O.

 

Nancy O. (Odien) Fairweather, a resident of Roslindale, died suddenly September 18th at the Faulkner Hospital in Boston. She was 89.  Nancy was the wife of the late Norman C. Fairweather.  She is survived by her children; Karen J. Rego and her husband Richard of Oak Bluffs, Elaine J. Fairweather and James N. Fairweather both of Roslindale, and David C. Fairweather and his wife Carol of Bellingham.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Christopher, Barbara, Pamela, Timothy, Victoria, Amanda and Taylor.  Nancy’s funeral will be held Thursday, September 24th at 11AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, September 23rd from 4-8 PM.   In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.

DesRoches, David M.

David M. DesRoches  of Dedham, died suddenly at the age of 27, on Sept. 17.  He was the beloved son of Nancy J. and her husband Jack Toomey of Dedham; the loving father of Tyanna DesRoches; the devoted brother of Robin McCarthy, Haleigh Toomey, both of Dedham, and Adrianna Toomey of Salem; and the dear uncle of Max DesRoches, James McCarthy and Kaedyn Digou.  He is also survived by his aunt and uncle Joan and John Digou, and their children  Jamie and Paul, and his aunt Robin Gava, all of Dedham, as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 950 East St., Dedham.   Burial will be private.  Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Norcap Lodge, 71 Walnut St., Foxboro, MA, 02035 or to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 950 East Street, Dedham, MA 02026.

Roemer, Mildred G.

Mildred G. Roemer, a long time resident of Dedham, died Wednesday at the Briarwood Health Care facility in Needham. She was 88. Mrs. Roemer was born in Boston and was the daughter of the late John F. & Gladys E. (Smith) McLaughlin. She grew up in West Roxbury and was devoted to her family. She volunteered for many years at the West Roxbury VA Hospital and received many awards for her service & dedication to the veterans at the hospital. She was predeceased by her husband the late James E. Roemer. She is survived by her children Joyce Ranalli, James E. Jr., Kenneth Roemer all of Venice, FL, Barbara Schwartz of Redwood, NY, & David Roemer of Dedham. She is also survived by her brothers & sisters John McLaughlin of VA, Richard McLaughlin of Stoney Point, NY, Robert McLaughlin, Lois Mandelberg both of Arlington, VA and 3 grandchildren. Mother of the late Dorothy A. Roemer & sister of the late Ruth Quinzani. Services are private. Bartholomew, Delevan

Delevan Bartholomew of Daytona Beach, Florida formerly of Westwood died on September 12.  He was 64. Delevan was born in Westwood to the late Frederick M. Bartholomew, Sr. and Ethel T. (Peterson).  He was a builder in primarily residential construction.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. He is survived by his children Megan Eklund and her husband Wayne of Walpole, Christine Bartholomew of Milford, David Bartholomew and Becky Bartholomew both of Hyannis, his brother Frederick M. Bartholomew, Jr. and his sister Nancy Bolles of Bourne and predeceased by his sister Linda Carton.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, September 18 at 2 pm at the Old Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.

Bantos, Sotiris

Sotiris N. Bantos, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 at his daughter’s home in Dedham.  He was 59. Sotiris was born and grew up in Megalopolis, Greece, a son of Georgios and Argyro (Fountas) Bantos.  He came to the United States in his later teen years and has owned and operated pizza restaurants in Dedham, Needham, and Norwood for many years.  He is survived by his son, Georgio Bantos, and his wife Tara, of Dedham; two daughters, Tina Tiglianidis, and her husband George, of Dedham, and Amy Tiglianidis, and her husband Kosta, of Dedham; a brother, John Bantos; five sisters, Eva Bantos of Lexington, Nota Moraitis of Moultonboro, New Hampshire, Maria Panagopoulos of Worcester, Effie Makarios of Dover, and Kathy Damassiotis of Alaska; as well as five grandchildren.  Realtives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service Saturday at 11 AM at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale followed by burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, West Roxbury.  Visiting hours will be held from 9 to 11 AM in the Church prior to the Funeral.

Flint, George W. Jr.

George Willard Flint Jr., a resident of West Roxbury for 56 years, died Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009 at his home in West Roxbury after a long illness.  He was 94.  George was born in Cohasset on Oct 18, 1914, a son of George Willard Sr., and Emma (Keegan) Flint.  He graduated from Northeastern University in 1937 with his bachelor of science degree.  George studied at MIT and received special certification in naval architecture allowing him to design and create warships for the Navy during World War Two.  He worked for Stone and Webster in Boston for 33 years as a Professional Design Engineer until his retirement in 1979.  George was a ham radio operator know by his call sign WIZGW.  He was a steward in Engineering Union Local 4 in Boston.  He enjoyed gardening,  was an avid fisherman, and a devoted Red Sox fan.  George was the husband of 49 years of the late Pauline (Allenspacker) Flint, the father of the late Susan P. Carr, and the brother of the late Beverly R. Burnside.  He is survived by his son, George W. Flint III of Plainville;  two daughters, Linda J. McClelland, and her husband Lindsay, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Diane F. Hardy. and her husband Mark, of Nottingham, New Hampshire; his brother, Gordon E. Flint of Cohasset; his two grandchildren, Karen J. McClelland, and Ashley M. Hardy; and his cousin, Elinor Coughlin, of Cohasset.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, September 11th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  George’s funeral will be Saturday at 10 AM at the Funeral Home followed by burial in Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.  Donations in his memory to Lifeworks, Attn Dan Burke, 789 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, MA 02090 would be appreciated.

Wohler, Mary Theresa

Mary Theresa (Muir) Wohler, a reesident of Middleborough for the past 31 years, died Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton.  She was 75.  Theresa was born Jan 23, 1934 in Washington, DC, a daughter of Robert and Mary (Lydon) Muir. She grew up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1952.  Theresa worked for a brief time as an adminstrator to the purchasing manager at Tobey-Deutchman Company in Norwood.  She was an artist who specialized in painting landscapes in oil paint.  She also enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, flowers, and nature.  Theresa is survived by her husband David H. “Darby” Wohler; her daughter, Karen J. Wohler of Norwood; her three sons, David E. Wohler, and his wife Mary, of Raynham, Michael J. Wohler, and his wife Lita, of East Walpole, and Patrick L. Wohler, and his wife Laureen, of Lakeville; her sister, Patricia Alty of Norwood; eight grandchildren; and her great grandson, Darby.  She was the sister of the late James Muir, and the late Catherine Kannally.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, September 8th from 5-9 PM at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols Street, Norwood.  Services and interment will be private.  Donations to the New England Sinai Hospital, 150 York Street, Stoughton, MA 02072 would be appreciated.

Porter, William W.

William Wendell Porter, Jr., a resident of Dedham since 1958, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, September 6th, 2009 at his home in Dedham after many years of a brave fight with cancer.  He was 81.  Bill was born May 19, 1928 in Boston, MA, a son of William W. Sr. and Mary E. (Brown) Porter.  He grew up in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School with the Class of 1947.  It was in High School that his lifelong love of music began.  Bill played trombone in the Brighton High School band, and in the Larry Queen Orchestra in which he continued after graduation.  He joined the Bob Batchelder Band which frequently played at the Totem Pole Ballroom at Norumbega Park in Newton and he played with them for eight years.  In 1950, as a member of the Parkway Concert Orchestra, he met his future wife Muriel, when she joined the Orchestra, and they wed in 1955.  Both were still involved with the Parkway Orchestra where Bill played lead trombone.  Bill also played with the Olde Kids on the Block, and was an active member of the Westwood Swing Band.  His interests were not just confined to his musical talents.  He was a Past President of the Westwood Rotary Club, a former Chaplain of both West Roxbury Lodge AF & AM and Constellation Lodge  AF & AM, and a longtime member of Allin Congregational Church in Dedham where he served on the Diaconate, sang in the choir, and was the Sunday School Superintendent for 26 years.  Bill was also the Past President and Founder of the Parkway Concert Orchestra Board of Directors, and a member of the Retired Mens Club of Dedham.  Bill retired in 1987 after 34 years as a Marketing Agent for Commercial Union Insurance Company.  After his “retirement” he continued selling insurance with the Patterson Insurance Agency in Westwood.  He is survived by his adoring wife of 54 years, Muriel E. (Brown); his devoted daughters, Joyce E. McFarland, and her husband Gary, of Norfolk, and Virginia L. Barry, and her husband Jim, of Walpole; and his brother Lawrence Porter of Burlington.  In addition, Bill was the proud grandfather of four wonderful grandchildren, Andrew William McFarland, Matthew Robert McFarland, Sean James Barry, and Meredith Lee Barry.  Also survived by his brother-in-law Wayne Brown, and his wife Joanne, of Columbus, Ohio.   Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Saturday, September 12th at 11 AM at the Allin Congregational Church in Dedham.  Private interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High Street, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated.

Folsom, E. Jane

Ethel Jane (Anderson) Folsom, a wonderful wife and mother, died Saturday, September 5th, 2009 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton with her husband and children by her side.  She was 78.  Jane (do not even think of calling her “Ethel”) was born March 10, 1931 in Norwood, Massachusetts, the daughter of immigrant Swedes August Nathaniel and Jane Bessie Albertina (Anderson) Anderson.  She grew up in Westwood on Buckmaster Road and graduated from Westwood High School with the Class of 1949.  She worked for several years in the late 1960’s as a Circulation Clerk for the Transcript Newspapers Co. of Dedham and then spent 15 years cataloguing new books for the Westwood Public Library until her retirement in 1986.  After retirement wanderlust struck Jane and her husband as they lived for varying periods of time in Wareham, Walpole, Norwood, and Middleborough before returning to Westwood about three years ago.  She has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Westwood for over 55 years, and, in her younger years, was a Sunday School Teacher there.  She enjoyed reading, needlework, travelling, and eating out, and she still watched her afternoon “soap” on the tv.  Jane is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard John Folsom; her son, Robert Mark Folsom, and his wife Donna L. (Jacobs) of Westwood; her daughter, Judith Ann Murray, and her husband John F. of Westwood; her five grandchildren, Sarah Jane Folsom, Brian Robert Folsom, Julia Grace Folsom, Christine Lynn Murray, and Caitlin Elizabeth Murray; and her sister, Vivien L. (Anderson) Reboli, and her husband Warren, of Fountain Hills, AZ.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 10th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood.  Funeral Services will be Friday at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church, 808 High Street, Westwood followed by burial in New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.  In lieu of flowers donations to the First Baptist Church of Westwood, Christian Education Fund, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA 02090 would be appreciated.
