Manson, Joan

Joan Frances Manson, a resident of Roslindale since 1963, and formerly of Dorchester, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at her home in Roslindale. She was 70. Joan was born Aug 27, 1939, one of the three daughters of John Robert and Frances (O’Rourke) Manson. Joan worked in the Policy Services Dept of New England Life Insurance Company in Boston for 26 years until her retirement in 1988. She was an avid reader and gardener who enjoyed history and was a Proud Bostonian. She also enjoyed puzzles and was a member of the Audubon Society. Joan is survived by her sisters, Joyce Swensen of Candler, North Carolina, and Mary E. Root of Las Vegas, Nevada; and her nieces and nephews, Eric, Steven and Sonja Swenson, and Betsy, Lonnie, Michael, Tina and Holly Root. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Mephis, Tennessee, 38105.

Sturgis, Herbert S.

Herbert Sinclair Sturgis Jr., a resident of Westwood for 56 years, died Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Norwood after a long illness. He was 85. Herb was born February 10, 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the nine children of Herbert S. Sr., and Rachel (Montgomery) Sturgis. He joined the US Navy at age 17 and served as a torpedoman third class. Herbert earned his degree in electrical engineering and industrial technology from Northeastern University in Boston, and then spent 21 years at High Voltage Engineering Corporation in Burlington. He spend 10 years working at Instron in Canton as a facilities engineer until his retirement in 1990, after which he did private consulting work. Mr. Sturgis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. “Jan” (Stronach) Heffernan Sturgis; a son, Herbert K. Sturgis; a daughter, Ann Marie Sadatis; and three sisters, Evelyn Ambrose of Pennsylvania, Margaret Ricking of California, and Phyllis Dorr of Westboro. Herbert was the father of the late Cynthia G. McNabb; and the brother of the late Richard, Robert, and David Sturgis, Julia Dodd, and Eleanor M. Dane. He was a member of the former Constellation Lodge AF & AM which was located in Dedham, the American Legion, and the Disabled American Veterans. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 25th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood with a Masonic Service by Eliot-Hyde Park Lodge of Westwood at 7:30 PM. Herb’s funeral will be Friday at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church of Westwood, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA followed by burial in New Westwood Cemetery in Westwood with Military Honors.

Theodorou, Photis G.

Photis G. Theodorou, a resident of Amesbury, and formerly a resident of Roslindale, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his home in Amesbury.  He was 81.  Photis was the son of late Nicholas and Dimitra Theodorou, and is survived by his wife, Sofia (Mihalakis); his children, Nicholas Theodorou of Kentucky, Jimmy Theodorou of New Hampshire, and Elizabeth Theodorou of Amesbury; his siblings, Kathy, Niki and Lucas Theodorou; as well as three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  He was the brother of the late Christos Theodorou and the late Maritsa Tremoullaris.  Mr. Theodorou worked as a mechanic in the Boston area for many years.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 from 4-8 Pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  Photis’ funeral will be held Saturday at 11 AM at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale followed by burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury.

Young, Eleanor

Eleanor Virginia Young, a longtime resident of Norwood, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a brief illness.  She was 81.  Eleanor was born May 11, 1928 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the only daughter of Harold O., and Gertrude E. (Hankey) Young.  She was the sister of the late Robert C. Young.  Eleanor graduated from Dedham High School and worked as a secretary for the Colgate Company in Boston, and for Kendall Mills.  Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 13th at the May Funeral Home in Norwood.  Private burial was in Highland Cemetery in Norwood

Lawson, Margaret M. (Ehnes)

 

Margaret M. (Ehnes) Lawson a 36 year resident of Dedham passed away at her daughter’s home on March 15, 2010, she was 92.  Margaret, who was the youngest of 10 children; was born on June 19, 1917 to Leonard and Katherine Ehnes.   She grew up on the family farm in Norfolk.  Upon completing highschool, Margaret met and married Malcolm Lawson; the couple first settled in West Roxbury, and later made Dedham their permanent home.  The couple was blessed with four children.  They became devoted members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Dedham.  In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed cooking, and spending time with her family.  Margaret is predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Katherine (Albig) Ehnes, and her husband, Malcolm R. Lawson.  She is survived by her children:  Ingrid Heim of Norfolk, Margaret Binder of Walpole, John Lawson of Dedham, and Mary Duffy of Weston, as well as, 6 grandchildren.  Visiting hours will be held THURSDAY, March 18th from 4-8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, DEDHAM.  Margaret’s funeral will be held FRIDAY at 10:00AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church 950 East Street, Dedham.  Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in West Roxbury.  In lieu of flowers, donation to St. Luke’s Church (address above) would be appreciated.

Mingels, Francis T.

Francis T. “Bud” Mingels, a longtime resident of Dedham, died March 12, 2010 at the age of 85.  He was born in Boston to the late Francis T.  Sr. and Anna (Beckett).  Mr. Mingels grew up in Norwood and was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Navy.  He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Glacier Sand & Stone, AA Will Co. and JF White until his retirement in 1983.   For over 50 years he was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 4, Boston, a member of the VFW, Post 2017, American Legion of Dedham and the Society in Dedham for Apprehending Horsethieves.  Bud was the beloved husband of Shirley (Alber).  They were married for 53 years and together they raised 6 children, Anne Jay Abuchon of Plymouth, Emily Jeanne Mingels of Greenville, SC, Mark W. Mingels of E. Bridgewater, Scott F. Mingels of Dedham and the late James J. Mingels and Gerard B. Mingels.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service  Monday at 10:30 AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham.  Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.  Visting hours will be held Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 950 East St., Dedham, MA 02026 or to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.

Woodman, Bonnie J. and Tomasello, Stephen M.

Bonnie Joy Woodman, February 27, 2010 surrounded by her  “sisters”, family and friends at home after a long illness, and Stephen Tomasello,who died January 29 2010 suddenly at Norwood Hospital . They were devoted partners for life and died within weeks of each other. They both graduated from Norwood High School.  She was 50 and he was 51 years old. Bonnie worked as an account specialist for Boston Financial in Quincy for over 10 years. Steve most recently worked at Lewis’ in Norwood for over 5 years and then Tee T’s Restaurant in Walpole for 2 years. They were both passionate about cooking, stargazing, and quality time spent with friends. Bonnie is survived by her brother Robert Woodman of Los Angeles, CA and her Uncle Mahlon Johnstone of Walpole, as well as her aunts Shirley Barrett and Marie Proctor.  She was the sister of the late Richard “Woody” and Jack Woodman. Steve is survived by his brother Chuck Tomasello of South Carolina. He was the brother of the late Cheryl Bouchard. Both were loved by many nieces, nephews and special friends. In lieu of flowers donations in Bonnie and Steve’s memory may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 2 Willow St.,
Southboro, MA 01745 or Self Help Inc, 142 Crescent St., Brockton, MA 02302. A Celebration of Life party will be held at a later date.
