Johnson, Walter

Walter Hjalmar Johnson, a resident of Westwood, and formerly of Dedham, died Friday, December 4th, 2009 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood after a brief illness.  He was 89.  Walter was born July 28, 1920 in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, the only son of Hjalmar K. and Alfreda (Bjorkman) Johnson, immigrants from Norway.  He was a graduate of the Boston Trade High School and served in the Coast Guard during World War Two.  Walter retired from the RCA Corporation as an electronic technician.  He enjoyed gardening, square dancing and ballroom dancing.  Walter is survived by his wife, Marion L. (Eastwood) Johnson; his daughter, Marion G. Johnson, and her husband Lewis Sykes, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; his sister, Helen Conroy-Friedman, of Dedham; three grandchildren, Rebecca Palmer, Jennifer Bemis, and Clayton Bemis; and his great granddaughter, Katherine Palmer.  Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 10 to 11:30 AM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM in the funeral home with the Reverend Patricia Eustis officiating.  Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.
