McCarthy, William J.

William Joseph McCarthy, a resident of Readville, died Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the West Roxbury VA Hospital in Boston. He was 93. William was born July 13, 1929 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Robert and Mary (O’Connor) McCarthy, immigrants from Ireland. He graduated from Hyde Park High School with the Class of 1946 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the US Airforce where he served multiple tours during his 23 year military career. His first tour was with the 3535th Installations Squadron (3535 Bomb Training Wing) and his second was with 3415th Installations Group. Subsequently he served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 307th Tactical Fighter Squadron. William was Honorably discharged in 1969 as a Senior Master Sergeant. After his military service William worked as a foreman for Village Forge Ironworks for 25 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Airforce Sergeants Association and a communicant of St. Anne’s Parish in Readville for 53 years. William was an avid golfer and candlepin bowler and he enjoyed time at the beach and swimming. William was the husband of the late Charlotte Marie (Anthony) McCarthy; the father of the late William J. McCarthy Jr.; and the brother of the late Robert, Jack, and Michael McCarthy, Margaret Lang, and Eileen Forsythe. He is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen M. Caruso, and her husband Ernie, of Westwood, and Colleen McCarthy of Readville; his two sons, Kevin M. McCarthy , and his wife Noreen, of Hull, and Timothy P. McCarthy, and his wife Maureen, of Hull; his late son William Jr’s wife Margaret, of Readville; his sister, Geraldine Boutin of Middleboro, as well as 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4 to 8 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham. Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home Tuesday at 10 am and proceed with us St St. Anne’s Church 90 West Milton Street, Readville for his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 o clock. Interment with military honors will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers donations to the Fisher House of Boston, PO Box 230, Walpole, MA 02071 would be appreciated.
