Systrom, Linda

Linda D. Systrom died after a brief, sudden illness. Her husband of 41 years, Ernie, and her sister in law Sue Weikel were by her side when she passed. Linda Jan (Dixon) Systrom was born on June 5, 1951 to Jane Hills Dixon and Henry Malcolm Dixon in Sharon, Massachusetts.

Linda received the bulk of her formal education in the Westwood school system in Westwood, MA. She furthered her education (1 year) at Framingham State University (Framingham, MA) and finished her college education at Boston University in Boston, MA. Linda attended Riverchase United Methodist Church.

Linda Jan Dixon went to grade school with Ernest W. Systrom. At their 10th year high school reunion they met once again. In spite of living 650 miles apart, Linda and Ernie started dating after that. After more than a year of being pursued, Linda took pity on Ernie and agreed to marry him. On July 18, 1981 Linda and Ernie were married at St. Anne’s Church in Kennebunkport, Maine. When Linda was single, she worked at a number of places including 8 years at Harvard University, spending the bulk of her time as a Research Associate in the Development Department. After getting married, she moved to Pittsburgh,PA. She worked for a couple of years as a financial aid officer at La Roche University outside of Pittsburgh, PA. In 1994 Linda and her husband moved to Alabama. Linda enjoyed travelling, gardening, and cooking throughout her life. She and her husband travelled extensively to Europe, South America, Asia, and in North America. She always had a love of plants and flowers. After taking a formal course, in 1998 she became an Alabama Master Gardener. She did a great deal of volunteer work for that organization, racking up something like 7000 volunteer hours. Acting as Chairman of the Membership committee she became friendly with many AMGA members. She also did a lot of volunteer work for Aldridge Gardens in Hoover, AL. Linda also loved looking up recipes and trying them. At many AMGA functions she provided treats and snack

Linda is survived by her husband, Ernie, and her brother, Glenn.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service for Linda on Sunday, August 70, 2023 at Noon, at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood, MA 02090.
