Gates, Marcia Emma

 

Marcia Emma Gates, a resident of Brookline, New Hampshire, and a longtime resident of Dedham passed away January18th at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire, she was 93.  Marcia was born on January 13, 1917, in the family home located at 144 Walnut Street, Dedham, to Dr. Raymond and Grace (Tucker) Gates.   Her parents owned the Gates Pharmacy, located in East Dedham, where Marcia and her two brother’s William and Raymond frequently helped out.  She graduated from Northfield Seminary of the Northfield School as part of the class of 1935, and went on the Secretarial School.  Upon her graduation, she accepted a job at the Hersey Sparling Company of Dedham, working as a secretary in their sales department.  In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading and studying history.  She was a member of the Smithsonian Museum, and an avid antique collector.  In addition to her parents, Marcia is predeceased  by her brothers William O. Gates, and Raymond E. Gates, Jr.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Wilson Gates, Richard Tucker Gates, and William Jeremiah Gates.  She is also survived by her great-nephew Brett Robert Gates Wilson.  Her funeral service will be held FRIDAY, January 22nd at 12:00 at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, DEDHAM.  Visitation will be Friday from 11:00-12:00.  Interment will follow at the Brookdale Cemetery in Dedham.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mass Audubon Society, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773 or the Animal Rescue League, 55 Anna’s Place, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated.
