Poirier, Rene F.

Mr. Rene “Pete” F. Poirier of Dedham died on February 15, 2010 of heart failure. He was 86. Pete was born in Fall River, MA and lived in Dedham since 1940. He worked as an electrician for the Penn Central, New Haven, and Conrail railrioads for 50 years and retired with Amtrak. Traveling to Cape Cod in the summer was a joy for him. Pete was a World War Two army veteran who served in Southern France and the Rhineland.  He was a member of IBEW, (the International Brothers of Electrical Workers), the VFW, Post 2017, the American Legion, Dedham, and two bowling teams, Dedham Men’s Club and Readville Seniors and loved bingo. Pete was loved by all who knew him for his caring and selflessness. He would always listen and offer a kind word to help you through a tough time; he never judged you, and always gave a free hug. Being very religious, he attended Mass every day of his life. God truly blessed him for all his good deeds.  He was the beloved husband of the late Emily (Hardy). He is survived by his children, Paul of Dedham, Lorraine Curran and her husband Frank of Walpole, Peter and Jan of Brockton, Helen Humes of Dedham, Loretta Rowe of Attleboro and Sandra Hitching and her husband Ed of Florida.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Friday at 10 AM from the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton St., Dedham followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 420 High St., Dedham. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery.  Visiting hours are on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 would be appreciated.

I am so sorry to hear of Pete’s passing. He has been a dear friend for a long time. I will miss my Christmas cards from him every year. He was also a yearly visitor of our family when they would stay at Swifts Beach. Great person and a joy to know. I will miss my friend dearly. God Bless.
