Kubick, Harry J.

Harry Joseph Kubick Jr., a lifelong resident of Dedham, died Sunday October 23, 2011 at his home in Dedham.  He was 82.  Harry, or “Kook” as he was known to friends and family, was born August 11, 1929 in Norwood, Massachusetts, the only child of  Harry Joseph Sr., and Jayne (Beach) Kubick.  Harry graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1947 and  attended Northeastern University and the University of New Hampshire.  Kook was a track star at Dedham High school and also ran track at Northeastern.  He was an Eagle Scout with Troop One in Dedham, a member of Constellation Lodge AF & AM of Dedham, a member of the Dedham Retired Men’s Club, and a member of the Air National Guard.  He enjoyed gardening and was accomplished at growing orchids.  Mr. Kubick first worked for Pilling Engineering Company in Dedham but spent most of his career as a civil engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until his retirement in 1992.  Harry is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Spaulding) Kubick, and his two sons, Bruce and Glenn.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 26th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Thursday at 10 AM at the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High Street, Dedham. Private burial was in Broodale Cemetery in Dedham.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Shriner’s Burns Institute, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 would be appreciated.

    I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Kook. He was admired by many for his dedication to the Boy Scouts and later for his exquisite orchids. His warm, gentle smile will be missed. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Harry was a wonderful man and I’m glad I knew him. His presence and warm smile will be missed at Allin Church.
