Cluett, Virginia A. “Ginny”

Virginia “Ginny”(Ashcraft) Cluett died peacefully March 6, 2012 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts.  She was 96. Ginny was the youngest child of the late Edwin M. Ashcraft II and Anna (Strawbridge) Ashcraft. Virginia was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 21, 1915. Following the death of her first husband, Gerald H. Smith, she married George Alfred Cluett Jr. in 1957 in Princeton, New Jersey where they resided for many years. In 1994 she moved to Fox Hill Village in Westwood, Massachusetts.  She was also a long time summer resident of Blue Hill, Maine where her family gathered every summer. Ginny was a  graduate of Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut and was active in the Princeton Garden Club and as a volunteer at the Princeton Hospital. She was predeceased by her two children Ann Ashcraft Smith and Ralph Ormand Smith; her stepson A. Tucker Cluett; her sisters Barbara Ashcraft and Ann Ashcraft Mitchell; and her brother Edwin M. Ashcraft III.  She is survived by her stepson Mark S. Cluett of Savannah, Georgia; her granddaughters Amanda C. Stanton of Pennington, New Jersey, Elizabeth C. Thors of Brookline, Massachusetts, and Julia S. Cluett of South Egremont, Massachusetts; many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces; and 6 great grandchildren. A  service for her family is planned for a later date. A reception at Fox Hill Village will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Historic Deerfield, PO Box 321, 84B Old Main Street, Deerfield, MA.01342

    I just found this, and am saddened to hear that Virginia is gone. She was a great lady. My condolences go out to Mark and Libby Cluett and especially to Bill and Amanda Stanton, as well as their four gorgeous daughters. I feel privileged to have known you all!
