Finbow, Russell S.

Russell S. Finbow, a life long resident of Norwood, passed away on June 1, 2012 at the age of 87.  Mr. Finbow was a graduate of the Norfolk Agricultural High School in Walpole.  He served in the US Army as a corporal during World War II.  After leaving the service he started his own business and became proprietor of R&H Lunch located at the Ponkapoag Golf course in Canton.  During that time he married Margaret H. (Holman) and together they raised their daughter.  After the passing of Margaret, he met and married Lillian (MacRae).  Russ, as he was fondly known, was a former chairman of the Board of Registrars for the Town of Norwood for several years.  As an active member of the United Church of Norwood, he served as church council chairman moderator.  He  belonged to the Alpeppo Temple Shriners, the Norwood Elks , was past patron of Samoset Chapter #109, Order of the Eastern Star, and  Chaplain and past Master of  Orient Lodge AF & AM of Norwood.  Russell leaves his daughter, MaryLou Folan, and her husband Francis M., of Norwood; his brother William E. Finbow of Rhode Island; and one grandson, Francis Russell Folan.  He was predeseased by his brother Walter E. Finbow.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 11 AM  at the United Church of Norwood, 595 Washington St.  Interment will be private.  Visiting hours are Monday from 4 – 8 PM, with a Masonic service at 7 PM by Orient Lodge AF & AM of Norwood, at the May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St., Norwood.  In lieu of flowers , donations  to  the Margaret H. Finbow Scholarship, Grand Chapter of Massachusetts OES, P.O. Box 600583, Newtonville, MA 02460 would be appreciated.

    Russ was a great man. I grew up playing at Ponky and Russ was a part of great daily memories. Jelly or Marmalade ? RIP. Thank you.
