McCarthy, Robert L.

Robert Louis McCarthy, a resident of Dedham for 26 years, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the Norwood Hospital.  He was 72. Bob was born in Stoughton, the son of the late William and Beatrice McCarthy.  Bob attended the Fernald School in Waltham and worked for various companies throughout his life including the Templeton Colony Farm in Baldwinville, Massachusetts. He also worked as an assembler in Dedham. Bob loved yard sales, country music, western movies and tinkering with electronics by taking them apart and putting them back together again.  East Dedhamites may remember him as “Red Scooter Bob” who rode around the area on his red scooter.  He is survived by his brother John T. McCarthy of Canton; his sisters Jean Rist, Laura Jewett, Barbara Morrissey, and his twin sister Alice O’Connell, all of Stoughton.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  Bob was the brother of the late Michael J. McCarthy,  William E. McCarthy Jr., and  Gerald F. McCarthy.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 10 am.  Burial will follow at Avon Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Avon.  In lieu of flowers donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Lifeworks, 789 Clapboardtree Street, Westwood, MA. 02090.

    Robert, my friend. I feel blessed that we had such a strong friendship. I have so much admiration for his tenacity, strong will, sense of dignity and wonderful sense of humor. He taught me so much, for that I am greatful.

    We all loved you, and will miss you very much. I hope you are at a big yard sale in the sky or riding your scooter around. It was wonderful to have had you for a neighbor all those years! You radio!!
