Allen, Robert H.

Robert Hall Allen, a lifelong resident of Roslindale, died Saturday December 15, 2012, at Wingate at Needham Nursing Facility in Needham, Massachusetts after a long illness.  He was 67 years old.  Bob joined the United States Army in November of 1966 and was honorably discharged in June of 1967 during the Vietnam War.  He was a graduate of Wichita State University,  Wenthworth Institute and the University of Lowell (Now UMASS Lowell).  Bob worked as an Industrial Engineer for Digital Equipment Corporation for over 23 years in Massachusetts as well as in Puerto Rico. After he left there he went to work for Home Depot stores in West Roxbury, Norwood, and Quincy until he retired.   Bob worked for close to 15 years with the company.  He was a life member of Savin Hill Yacht Club and served as Financial Secretary for a few years as well as Vice Commodore for a year. Bob was also a former member of Prospect Lodge  AF & AM and  Squantum Yacht Club.  Sailing was his passion for many years.  His sailboat was a C & C 24 named Dolce Far Niente.  After selling his beloved vessel he was not ready to give up being on the water and purchased a small power boat.  His interests were diverse including photography, carpentry (which included building a few pieces of furniture), fishing and cruise traveling through the Carribean, Australia and the Panama Canal.  Animals were always a part of his life.  He and his mother owned several German Shepherd dogs each named Trina which was short for Princess Katrina.  Bob was devoted to his mother, the late Florence E. (Hall) Allen.  He is survived by dear friends Terri Halliday, Virginia Lamb and Lisa Cameron.  A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 am in Emmanuel Episcopal Church,  21 Stratford Street, West Roxbury, MA. 02132. Burial will be private.  Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Building Fund, address listed above.
