Skarinka, Helen 

Helen Victoria (Oberlander) Skarinka of Westwood, MA died Saturday, May 18, 2013.  She was 89 years old. Helen was the beloved wife of the late Vitold C. Skarinka. She was one of five children of the late Louis A. and Ellen E. (Connolly) Oberlander and grew up in Dedham, MA. She was a graduate of the Class of 1941 of Dedham High School where she was the Drum Majorette for the Dedham High School Marching Band during her senior year. She enrolled at Boston University and after graduation worked for the War department. In 1952, she married Vitold and they raised a family together in Westwood for 55 years. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church of Westwood and member of the sodality. Her life long passion was her family and sewing. Her hobby as a seamstress provided much enjoyment and pride for her and her family. Helen is survived by her son Richard C., and his wife Peggy, of Concord, NH; her daughter Karen P. Raymond, and her husband Ron, of Dover; her grandchildren, Jeff, Kristen, Kaitlin, Christopher, and Billy; and her sisters, Joy E. Oberlander of Dedham, and Jean M. Kent of Easton. She was the godmother of Cherylann Sheehan, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Helen was the sister of the late Barbara Winbourne. Relatives and friends will gather Wednesday at 9 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood and proceed to St. Denis Church, 157 Washington Street, Westwood for her Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o’clock. Burial will be private. Visiting hours Tuesday 3:30- 7:30 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to the Friendly Soup Kitchen, 2 South Commercial Street, Concord, NH 03301  or The Faulkner Hospital Philanthropy Office,  1153 Centre Street, Belkin House, Jamaica Plain, Ma. 02130.

    A lovely lady and a beautiful picture of her. She was known through my friend, and her sister, Joy. She kindly attended to some alterations of mine, but mostly, our time was spent talking about family. She loved them so. Peace.
