Giovanna (D’Andrea) Sardella, passed away peacefully on her 92nd birthday, April 18, 2014.  She was born in Messina, Sicily on April 18, 1922.  One of five sisters, she worked as a skilled seamstress to help support her family.  Giovanna married Anthony Trifiro and emigrated to the United States in the early 1950s.  She shortly thereafter became  US citizen , of which she was very proud.  Upon the death of Anthony, Giovanna took night classes to learn the English language.  She worked as a seamstress in Roslindale Square, and met her second husband, Paul Sardella.  Predeceased by both Anthony and Paul, Giovanna leaves her daughter, Mary (Trifiro) Frenette, son-in-law John Frenette, grandchildren John and Michael and several of Paul’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her nieces and nephews and their families in Sicily.  Giovanna loved visiting with her grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting, laughing and telling stories of her childhood in Italy.  Giovanna recanted frightening tales of life in wartime Sicily.  She will be sadly missed.

Mary would like to thank the staff of the Blair House of Milford for their caring professionalism and never-ending kindness in the care of her mother.  They were a constant source of support and compassion during this difficult time.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 8AM to 10AM followed by a funeral service at 10 at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St., Westwood.  Interment will be private.
