Fitch, Jean (Corliss)

Jean Winifred (Corliss) Fitch, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Needham.  She was 95.  Jean was born July 17, 1919 in Needham, Massachusetts, the daughter of Carl David, and Bessie M. (Carter) Corliss. After high school she attended the Chandler Secretarial School in Boston fir two years.  She worked for Kendall Mills in Walpole and then spent over 15 years as the Assistant Tax Collector for the Town of Westwood until her retirement in the mid 1980’s.  Jean was a member of the Westwood Garden Club, the Westwood Historical Society, and of the First Parish Church of Westwood.  She also enjoyed knitting and reading.  Jean was the wife of the late Arthur Keeler Fitch, Jr who predeceased her in 2008.  She is survived by her two sons, Robert A. Fitch of Westwood, and Richard K. Fitch of St. Petersburg, Florida; her daughter, Carol Lee Strout of Saugus; her two brothers, Richard Corliss of Rhode Island, and David Corliss of Hawaii; her three grandchildren, Todd Strout, Tyler Strout, and Heather Jean Fuller; and her three great grandchildren, Kelsey Strout, Chloe Strout, and William Fuller.  A graveside service will be held in the Spring when her ashes will be buried next to her husband at the Old Westwood Cemetery in Westwood.   In lieu of flowers donations to the First Parish Church, 340 Clapboardtre Street, Westwood, MA 02090 would be appreciated.

    The Fitches were my second family and Jean was my second mother growing up. She was a sweet, wonderful woman and we will miss her.

    We have many wonderful memories of Christmas and Thanksgiving at Uncle Art and Aunt Jean’s house growing up.
    She was always such a sweet person.
