Miller, Darrell G.

Darrell G. Miller died peacefully in Norwood on Sunday, March 8th, 2015,  surrounded by his loving family.  He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret (Foor) Miller; loving father of Rodger F. Miller and his wife, Patricia, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kevin L. Miller and his wife, Marcia, of Dedham; and, Karen L. Taylor and her husband, Michael, of Walpole.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Aileen Damerow and her husband Morgan, of Lacey, Washington; Ian Miller of Salt Lake City, Utah; Adam Miller and his wife Shey, of Weatherford, Texas; Alyson Taylor of Walpole; and Gregory Miller and his wife, Carolyn, of Milton.  He was also the great grandfather of Haley Damerow.  Darrell was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancie Ann Miller.

Born in Odebolt, Iowa in 1920, Darrell was the son of the late Clifford G. Miller and Mae (Ahrenholtz) Miller of Early, Iowa.  As a teen, he worked at Kalin’s General Store.  He was a graduate of Iowa State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He owned his own company, and then in 1961, joined Hatch Associates. He continued his work as a sales representative for small defense manufacturers when he joined the Sturgeon Company in 1963, located in Wellesley, for thirty-five years until his retirement. He served in World war II as a Captain and pilot in the Marine Corps,  Air Group. While stationed in the Pacific, he piloted off a “Jeep” Carrier and flew a Corsair, providing ground support along the coast of Japan.

Darrell was a resident of Norwood,a former resident of Westwood, and a long time former resident of Dedham for over fifty years.  He was a devoted member of the Mason’s and was recently acknowledged as a 60 year member. He was also a member of the Dedham Retired Mens Club. Darrell was an avid gardener and a long time volunteer at Dedham’s Endicott Greenhouse. An intense curiosity and passion about his family’s history led Darrell to compiling a detailed family genealogy that chronicled his ancestors on both sides as far back as the early parts of the 16th century.

Visiting hours will be held at Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham, on Friday, March 13, from 4-7PM with a Masonic Service by Celestial Lodge AF & AM of Westwood at 6:30PM .  Funeral and Burial will be private.
