Burk, Eugene

Eugene Wilhelm Christian Burk, a resident of Westwood for 47 years, died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at his home in Westwood after a long illness.  He was 77.  Eugene was born July 3, 1937 in New York City, New York, the only child of Eugene W C Sr. and Emma Pauline (Munz) Burk.  He graduated from the Bronx High School of Sciences in New York City, earned his undergraduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, and earned his Master’s Degree from Northeastern University.  Eugene was drafted into the US Army and spent a year in the Analysis and Intelligence Division of the Army Signal Corp.  He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1962.  Eugene then spent forty years working as an electrical engineer for Raytheon Corporation until his retirement in 2002.  He was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Norwood where he served on several church boards and sang in the choir.  Eugene is survived by his wife, Martha Alice (Carr) Burk; his two daughters, Erika Burk, and her husband Michael Jonas, of Brooklyn, New York, and Rebecca Canelli, and her husband Gerard Jr., of Foxboro; his son, Kurt Burk of Los Angeles, California;  and his two grandchildren, Emma and Sophie Jonas.  Visiting hours will be held Friday, May 29th from 4 to 7 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Saturday at 10 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 24 Berwick Street, Norwood followed by interment in New Westwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, 2nd Floor, Framingham, Massachusetts 01791 would be appreciated.

    I’m remembering all the interesting and fun times that

    Paul and I had with Martha and Gene and with the whole

    family on special occasions. I am most grateful for these

    Martha,
    We’re so sorry for the loss of your husband,Paul. Although we never met him, I’m sure he will be sorely missed.
    The obit mentioned he was an EE from MIT and worked for 40 years at Raytheon. I’m sure he was a fine engineer as well.(I worked for Hughes Aircraft as a 2nd career, which was then acquired by Raytheon).
