Radosta, Rocco

Rocco Radosta, a longtime resident of Dedham, died Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center in Boston.  He was 96.  Rocco was born March 14, 1919 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Giovanni and Guissieppina (Inzenga) Radosta, immigrants from Italy.  Rocco enlisted in the US Army in October of 1940 and spent five years as a Heavy Machine Gunner in the Medical Detachment of the 141st Infantry.  He saw action in Tunisia, Scicily, Naples, Rome and Southern France.  He was wounded in the European Theater in November of 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart.  After his Honorable Discharge in 1945 Rocco worked for about 25 years as a firefighter at the Boston Naval Shipyard until his retirement in the early 1970’s.  He started a second career as a custodian at the Dedham Town Hall where he worked for 10 years until his retirement in he early 1980’s.  Rocco was a member of American Legion Post 18 of Dedham and VFW Post 2017 of Dedham.  He was the husband of the late Lena (Toto) Radosta and the brother of the late Josephine, Mary, Mae, Charles, and John Radosta.  Rocco is survived by his daughter, Nardine J. Bellew, and her partner Ernest Converse, of Dedham; his four sons, John Radosta, and his wife Gilda, of Walpole, Richard P. Radosta, and his partner Mary Costello, of Dedham, Ronald Radosta of Port Orange, Florida, and Robert A. Radosta of Los Angeles, California; his brother, Angelo Radosta of Malden; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, September 3rd from 4 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home Friday at 10 AM and proceed to St. Mary’s Church, 420 High Street, Dedham for his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 o clock.  Interment with Military Honors will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 4202, Dedham, MA 02027 would be appreciated.
