Lester Stanwood Drake, of Norwood, age 85, passed away at the Golden Living Center in Dedham with his family by his side.  Lester was born in Brighton and lived in Norwood for 40 years before moving to Dedham.  He received an associates degree from the Wentworth Institute of Technology and worked at Honeywell as an associate electronics engineer for 25 years.  Les was very active at the First Congregational Church of Norwood throughout his life, and served as a Trustee, a head usher, was on the diaconate, and served on the Christian Service board.  He was also active in many town organizations such as F.I.S.H of Norwood, Parents without Partners, the Norwood Food Pantry, and was also a volunteer at Norwood Hospital.  Les enjoyed his HO model trains and was known for being a handyman around the house and for his great sense of Humor.  He was the dear husband of the late E. Shirley (Wright) Drake, and the loving father of Robert and his wife Doris of Dedham, Patricia Wheeler and husband Paul of Norwood, and Bette Surette and husband Robert of Ayer.  He was also survived by his two grandchildren, Sara and Kevin Surette, and longtime family friends Patricia Chapman of NY and Lavinia Hoeg of KS. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20th, 2017 from 3-7PM at the Folsom & May Funeral Home, 85 Nichols St, NORWOOD.  Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, January 21st, at 10AM at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter St, Norwood, MA 02062. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Congregational Church of Norwood Memorial Fund (address above), or the Norwood Food Pantry, 150 Chapel St. Norwood, Ma 02062, would be appreciated.

    Les was a good friend of my husband , Ed . I love the memory of the two of them going off for coffee at the ‘Second Cup’ . Rest in peace ,Les.
