Molander, Walter

Walter Harold Molander, a resident of Norwood, and formerly of Dedham, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at his home in Norwood.  He was 92.  Walter was born December 19, 1924 in Somerville, Massachusetts, the last surviving child of John Robert and Emma C. (Hagquist) Molander, immigrants from Sweden.  He grew up in the Riverdale Section of Dedham and graduated from Dedham High School before being inducted into the US Navy during World War Two.  Walter was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 and started working for Cote Motor Company where he rose to the position of Vice President.  In a midlife career change Walter decided to become a Certified Public Accountant and worked at Walsh Judge, a CPA firm in Braintree for several years until he opened his own CPA firm.  In addition to Walter Molander, CPA he owned and operated Henrici, Inc.  Walter was a Director of the former Dedham Cooperative Bank; he was an avid bowler in both the Riverdale Bowling League and the AARP Bowling League in Norwood; and he enjoyed playing golf, travelling, and he loved playing card games, especially poker.  Walter was the husband of the late Phyllis Rosemary (Webb) Molander, and the brother of the late Frederick R., Ruth, and Helen Molander.  He is survived by his son, David J. Molander, and his wife Sharon, of Franklin; his daughter, Louise C. Deraney of Norwood; his dear friend Peggy Gorman of Dedham; his four grandchildren, Eric Molander, Scott Molander, and his wife Mary, Sharon Deraney, and Brian Deraney, and his wife Allison; and his two great grandchildren, Nathan and Caroline Deraney.  Visiting hours will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday at 11 am at the funeral home.  Interment will be private.  Donations to VNA Care Network, 254 2nd Avenue, Needham, MA 02494 would be appreciated.

    Walter and Phyliss were close friends of my parents. Always playing cards and travelling together.
