Holmwood, Ronald T.

Ronald T. Holmwood of West Roxbury, MA, formerly of Wales Center and Buffalo, NY, died on July 30 with his family by his side.  He was 83.  Ron was the long time owner of El Snowshoes Restaurant at 1289 Big Tree Road in Wales Center.  A graduate of Kensington High School, he served in the quarter master corp of the U.S. Navy during WWII.   Owner of a number of restaurants in the Buffalo and Boston areas, he spent his retirement years pursuing a lifelong passion for travel to Mexico, refinishing furniture, golfing, taking care of his grandchildren and listening to the swing music of which he was so fond.  He is survived by his beloved wife Margaret “Marky” (Stockman) of 61 years; his two daughters, Debbie Holmwood and her husband John Mahoney of Norwood and Darlene Dowd and her husband Kevin of West Roxbury; his brother Donald Holmwood of Orchard Park, NY; and his  three loving  grandchildren Jack Mahoney, Ronald Holmwood Mahoney and Laura Dowd.  A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.  Burial will be private.

    Dear Markey: Sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. I don’t know if you remember us. We built a house across from “El Snowshoes” many years ago. Our kids went to school with Debbie & Jimmy. (Jack, Rita, Pauline,Dan & Mike). I don’t remember Darlene. We live in Florida now. My husband Jack & I will be married 61 years in February. Our kids are spread around the country.     I remember as a high schooler being a counselor at Camp Aloha and bouncing on the trampoline for 25 cents for 15 minutes. Camp Aloha is also gone, where I went to camp for 10 years from 1952 to 62. My most amazing childhood memories, and i am now 68!
