Barry, Martha

Martha E. Barry, age 98, passed away on November 11, 2018 at the Doolittle Home in Foxborough, MA, where she had resided since August of 2014.  She was born on May 7, 1920 in Maryland to James and Martha Barry.  Her father was a seaman who died when Martha was quite young, leaving Martha to support and care for her mother in their home in Westwood until her mother’s death. A strong, self-sufficient woman, Martha volunteered at the Westwood Public Library for many years. She enjoyed traveling and was an avid photographer turned prolific painter.  A number of her oil paintings were, not surprisingly, seascapes, which captured the powerful beauty of the water. Martha also had a special place in her heart for cats, and those lucky enough to share her home were showered with love. She was a parishioner of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Westwood. While Martha is survived by no immediate family, she will be missed by those whose lives she touched, including longtime friends for whom she had become family.  On Martha’s behalf, the Kaligian family would like to express gratitude to the Doolittle Home staff for their care and compassion, especially in the last days of her life.  Funeral services will be held Thursday  at Noon at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 95 Deerfield Ave, Westwood.  Burial will follow at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline where Martha will be laid to rest next to her parents.  In lieu of flowers donations to St. John’s Church (address above) would be appreciated.
