Robart, John

John Otto Robart, a resident of Roslindale for the past four years, and formerly a resident of West Roxbury for 62 years, died Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 at his apartment at the Sophia Snow House.  He was 98.  John was born June 20, 1911 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the youngest of the six children of Leonard and Anne (Ramsey) Robart.  He graduated from Rindge High School in Cambridge and worked as a bookbinder for the Riverside Press Division of Houghton Mifflin Company  for 42 years until his retirement in 1970.  He then worked as a maintenance man at the Children’s Hospital from 1970 to 1976.  John was the husband of the late Mary (Hopkins); the father of the late Jane Lee Wilson and the late Carol Lee Johnson; and the grandfather of he late Michael C. Johnson and the late John Heber Griffiths.  he is survived by his son, Dennis Robart of Rome, New York; his grandson, Danny E. Johnson of West Roxbury; his granddaughter, Brenda Griffiths of Arizona; and 5 great grandsons.  Visiting hours will be held Saturday, October 10th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale.  John’s funeral service will be held Sunday at 3 PM at the Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford Street, West Roxbury, with the Reverend Catherine Michael officiating.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations to the Stratford Street United Church, 77 Stratford Street, West Roxbury, MA 02132 would be appreciated.

    You were my last Uncle. I shall always remember the fun times with you as a young boy. Also, the joyful times with you and Aunt Mary. You certainly will be missed.
