Owens, David J.

David Joseph Owens, a longtime resident of Westwood, and formerly of Dedham, died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the West Roxbury Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Boston.  He was 82.  David was born June 5, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Clarence J. and Frances (MacDonald) Owens.  He graduated from Dorchester High School and enlisted in the US Navy for two years until his honorable discharge as a Fireman.  
David worked as a manager for the US Post office until his retirement in 1993. He had previously worked as a dispatcher for the Boston Fire Department. David served as a Director and Chairman of the Boston Post Office Employee Credit Union, as well as a Director of the Tremont Credit Union. He also enjoyed the years he spent working at Fenway Park. He was a former member of the McKeon Post 146 in Dorchester, the Norwood Elks, and a member of the Dedham Men’s Club. 
David was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his cottage in Warner, NH. He also loved taking long walks, and spending time, with his dog Colby. 
David is survived by his wife, Barbara Owens; his son, Stuart W. MacLean, and his wife Judy, of Norton; his daughter, Lisa Buckley, and her husband Matthew, of Mansfield; and his son Robert MacLean, and his wife Angela, of Norwood; his seven grandchildren, Ryan, Elyse, Lindsay, Christopher, Michael, Eric, and Lauren; his three great grandchildren, Charlotte, Kinsley, and Ryleigh; 
He is survived by his sister, Carol Harney, and was the brother of the late Donald Owens, and the late Mary Ellen Owens.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 

Due to covid gathering restrictions, services and interment with Military Honors at New Westwood Cemetery will be private. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.org) would be appreciated.
