Ruth Alicia Long of Needham, MA and a summer resident of Moody ME, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2021 at North Hill in Needham. She was one hundred years of age. Ruth was born in Arthurette, New Brunswick, the daughter of the Reverend Fred Burton and Ruth Alicia (King) Long, who were serving their first pastorate in the Baptist Church. Ruth’s professional life was spent at the New England Baptist Hospital in Boston where she was a therapeutic dietitian and an instructor at the Hospital’s School of Nursing. Family was always important to Ruth and she spent over 40 years researching her family history. She made lifelong friendships doing her research and connected with family near and far. She was active in genealogy circles, holding memberships in several state, national, and international genealogy societies. Ruth wrote five genealogies, one for each of her grandparents’ families’ and one for a family friend. Ruth will be dearly missed by sister Roberta Harris (Long) Potter and brother-in-law, Rae, of Nova Scotia. She is survived by eight nephews and nieces, and their children. She was also the sister of the late Dorothy Myrtle (Long) Trebino and the late Fred Burton Long Jr. Ruth had a special relationship with her nieces Roslyn (Trebino) Greig and the late Deborah (Trebino) Carmichael, and close friends Sylvia Nott and the late Dorothy Nelson. A special thank you to those who supported Ruth in her later years, including cousin Lucinda (Long) Vietor, Sandra Metts, Kevin Potter and her kind and dedicated caregivers. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA beside her loving parents.

My parents (her uncle and aunt) were very proud of Ruth and, as a child, I named a doll after her. I was glad to have the opportunity to visit with her in later years. She was certainly a very lovely woman.

I graduated from New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and still recall information imparted by Miss Long. She was firm but kind. She expected the best from you and most often received it!
