Dorothy (Campbell) Chute, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

Dorothy (Dot) was born on July 13, 1930, in Augustine Cove, Prince Edward Island, Canada, to the late Roderick and Vessie Campbell and stepmother Charlotte (Matheson) Campbell. She grew up with many brothers and sisters. Family was and always continued to be a priority instill upon her at a young age and she maintained a deep connection to her roots and siblings throughout her life.

Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Nelson Chute, as well as her siblings Violet Campbell, Lowell Campbell, Glenda (Campbell) Ling, Vernon Campbell, and Preston Campbell.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Moran and her husband Michael of Walpole, Massachusetts; her cherished grandchildren, Andrew Moran and Allyson Moran; and her siblings Sheldon Campbell, Delma Peters and many nieces and nephews who were all very special to her.

Dot lived in New Brunswick and Ontario throughout her late teens and into her twenties. She eventually moved to Norwood MA, in her late 20s following her brother Lowell. She worked as an assistant in Norwood Nursing Home with her sister-in-law for some time and eventually made her way to becoming a secretary at Bird Machine Company in Walpole MA Here is where she met Nelson Chute and sparks began to fly and they were married June 9, 1962. On November 9, 1967 they adopted their daughter Carolyn (Chute) Moran.

In her late teens and early twenties, Dot completed secretarial schooling, however in the 1954 she returned to the classroom and became a Certified Nursing Assistant, a role that reflected her caring nature and desire to help others. She worked for the Walpole VNA and did home care helping the elderly with the care they needed to maintain independence in the home. To say she loved doing this was an understatement.

Dot was known as a strong, confident, and independent woman who carried those traits throughout her life. Even in her later years, she maintained a clear sense of what she would and would not do, communicating her wishes with the same strength of character that defined her life. She had many long-lasting friendships that she cherished over the years and the stories I have heard are those of nothing but laughter and fun with occasional shenanigans.

She had a lifelong love of skating. As a young girl she played hockey, and later in life she enjoyed figure skating. If she had had her way, she would have been on the ice until just last week. Dot also loved vehicles, the bigger the better. She needed the room for all the children she brought along with her on trips to PEI.

More than anything, Dot loved children. Any child around her was treated with warmth and kindness, regardless of age. Family was always central to her life, beginning with her siblings and especially her father, whom she spoke about with great reverence.

Dorothy was a devoted Christian who lived her life with humility, kindness, and compassion. She was a caring person who always tried to live with intention and faith.

She spent the last eighteen months of her life at Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Winchester, Massachusetts. The care she received was amazing from the absolute best care givers anyone could ask for. From Karen her Nurse Manager leading the nursing team, Eileen her social worker always checking in on me as well as my mom, including Maria who took such meticulous care of her personal belongings throughout her stay. This is only to name a few of staff that cared for her as it takes so many to ensure those that can no longer care for themselves receive the care they need. My family and I are forever grateful for all of the staff who touched my mother’s life with kindness, caring and love.
