Edward Patrick Germano, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Friday, Feb 27, at his home in Westwood, in his 102nd year. Eddie was born November 15, 1924 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Ralph and Edith (DeChristifarro) Germano. He grew up in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School. When he was 16 years old he earned $5 for his first published cartoon from the Roslindale Parkway Transcript starting a long and illustrious career as an editorial sports cartoonist for the Transcript newspapers, the Quincy Patriot Ledger, the Boston Globe, and the Brockton Enterprise.
In 1981 and 1992 he was selected as the National Sports Cartoonist of the Year and his work has been featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame and the New England Sports Museum. Eddie published a book of his drawings called The Red Sox Drawing Board 1989. In 2025 Eddie was awarded the Boston Post Cane recognizing him as the oldest resident of the Town of Westwood.
Edward is survived by his wife of 73 years Marianne (Zuzzolo) Germano. He was the dear father of Ann Marie Ducey of West Roxbury, Edward R. Germano, and his wife Jeannie, of Marshfield, and Michael F. Germano, and his wife Edie, of Haverhill, and the proud grandfather of Jaclyn McDonald and her husband Justin, Jennifer Gold, and her husband Ryan, Julia Germano and her life partner Don Curtin, Justina Germano; Edward, Michael, Harry and Anna Germano; and Maria Forlizi. He was the great grandfather of Ava, Gianna, Gabriella, Carmella, and James. Brother of the late John Germano.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 2 to 5 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High St, Westwood. Friends are invited to Edward's Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 9th at 10:30 am at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St, Westwood (Please meet directly at church). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Anthony's Shrine, 100 Arch St, Boston, MA 02110 would be appreciated. Mr Germano's talents may be viewed on his website at www.eddiegermano.com
