John Albert Estano

John Estano, 75, of Weymouth, Massachusetts, passed away in Norwell on August 26, 2026. He was born in Boston on May 10, 1951, and lived in Roxbury and Dorchester during his early childhood before moving to Weymouth at the age of six. John graduated with honors from Weymouth Vocational Technical High School in 1969. During his high school years, he was an accomplished athlete, playing football, baseball, soccer, and hockey, and proudly served as class president. He had many interests growing up, but one of his greatest enjoyments was drag racing with his brother Steve. The brothers shared a love of cars and built a car together that they raced and enjoyed. 

As a young man, John met Barbara Sadlier, whom he eventually married. Together they had their son, Jason. John was a devoted and proud father. He especially enjoyed coaching Jason and watching him play baseball over the years, taking great pride in his son’s accomplishments. John briefly served in the United States Army before beginning his working career as an auto mechanic. He later changed direction and entered the carpentry trade, beginning as a union carpenter and working his way up to foreman and then supervisor. His dedication, hard work, and leadership eventually led him into union leadership. John served as a Union Trustee for Local 67 before becoming Business Agent for Local 67. He later became an Organizer for Boston Locals 33, 40, 67, and 218 and went on to serve as Business Agent for the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. 

In 2009, John took on what would become the final job of his career and the one he was most proud of. He served as the Owner’s Representative for the new Carpenters Center at the New England Regional Council of Carpenters. His career was a source of great pride, and he dedicated many years to the carpenters, the trade, and the union members he represented. 

John also had a lifelong love of cars. After retiring from the union, he moved to Florida, where he devoted countless hours to restoring a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, which became his pride and joy. He enjoyed taking the Chevy to car shows and meets throughout Florida, where it won numerous awards, including Best in Class. 

Family and time spent with those he loved were always important to John. In the mid-1980s, John and his family built a cottage in Meredith, New Hampshire, where they spent many wonderful years enjoying Lake Winnipesaukee. Boating, swimming, and spending time with friends and family created countless memories. Eventually, John sold the home and purchased another on Lake Pemigewasset before eventually moving to Florida. About ten years ago, John returned to Weymouth following the birth of his grandchildren. Being close to them and watching them grow was incredibly important to him. His grandchildren, Nina and Jason “JJ,” brought him tremendous pride and joy. 

John is survived by his son, Jason, and his grandchildren, Nina and Jason “JJ”; his sister, Jan Brock of Michigan; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Linda Estano of Florida; his nieces, Kristina Somers and Megan VanAtta of Michigan; and his nephews, Rick and Kevin Estano of Massachusetts, and Ryan and Adam Estano of Florida. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will remember him fondly. John was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Louise Estano; his sister, Mary; his brother, Rick; his nephew, David; and his former wife, Barbara Estano. John will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his pride in his son and grandchildren, his love of cars and racing, his accomplishments in the carpentry trade, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will continue to live on in the people who knew and loved him. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 9th from 4 to 7 pm at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by his memorial service in the funeral home at 7 pm.
