May 1, 1950 – October 23, 2026
Linda Cain (Hyjer) of Westwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, at the age of 76, following a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She will be remembered for the love and devotion she showed to her family and friends, her extraordinary kindness, and her wonderful sense of humor. Her infectious laugh brought joy to everyone around her, and her warmth and compassion touched the lives of so many.
Linda was born on May 1, 1950, to the late Jeanne (Rogers) Hyjer and the late Andrew G. Hyjer Jr. of Weston, Massachusetts. Linda was also the granddaughter of the late Archibald and Eva Rogers of West Newton, Massachusetts.
Linda graduated from Weston High School, where she participated in the Girls Glee Club, Mixed Choir, Madrigal Choir, Biology Club, and French Club. She also took part in her high school’s musical productions, performing alongside Erik “Chris” Cain, who would later become her husband. She went on to attend Pine Manor Junior College, where she earned an Associate in Arts degree.
In 1970, Linda married Chris at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Weston, Massachusetts. Chris predeceased her in 1991. Together, they raised their three children, Wendy, John, and Leslie, in their home in Westwood, Massachusetts. She loved her children dearly and treasured the time she spent with them.
For many decades, Linda devoted herself to caring for young children as a nursery school teacher at Wellesley Baptist Church, later known as Elmwood Chapel. She loved the children in her care and brought a special warmth to her work as their music teacher. Her gentle spirit, patience, and love made a lasting impression on the children and families who knew her.
Linda’s Christian faith was an important part of her life, providing comfort, strength, and guidance throughout the years. She was deeply involved in her church community. An accomplished pianist with a beautiful singing voice, she often played piano at church services and sang with the church choir. Music was one of the many ways she expressed her faith and brightened the lives of those around her.
A lifelong lover of flowers and gardening, Linda had a remarkable talent for creating beautiful flower arrangements and cultivating her garden. She could often be found visiting her favorite garden centers, happily discovering new flowers and special additions for her garden. She also delighted in feeding the birds at her feeders, with cardinals holding a special place in her heart.
Linda had an eye for the quiet beauty of the natural world, whether it was ocean-tumbled rocks, the ever-changing shapes of clouds, or a new bloom in her garden. She found wonder in the little things that others might pass by, and that appreciation was a reflection of the beauty she carried within herself.
York, Maine, held a special place in Linda’s heart. She had loved spending summers there since childhood, and Nubble Light was always one of her favorite spots. Those summers and the familiar beauty of the Maine coast remained cherished parts of her life.
Above all, Linda was a loving and compassionate woman who cared deeply for her family, her church, the children she taught, and the people fortunate enough to know her.
Linda is survived by her son, John Cain and his wife, Sarah, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; her two daughters, Wendy Cain of Westwood, and Leslie Cain and her husband, Nicholas Wang, of San Francisco, California; her two sisters, Wendy Daniels of Westwood and Judy McLean of York, Maine; and many beloved extended family members and friends.
Her family will remember her in the flowers she loved, the birds she welcomed, the music she shared, the beauty she found in the world around her, and the laughter that will forever echo in their hearts.
In Linda’s memory, take a moment to look up at the clouds and enjoy the beauty that God has made.
A celebration of life reception will be announced at a later date
