Born in Galway, Ireland to Thomas and Margaret Tarpey, Peggy carried the spirit of home with her wherever she went. With an adventurous spirit that took her to America as a young girl, she built a life rooted in love, friendship, and always a good cup of tea.
She shared a lifelong friendship with Jackie Laffely, a bond formed in Dorchester over 50 years ago through shared years, adventures, and family ties.
Peggy was known often to break into a spontaneous jingle wherever she went, half memory and half her own invention. She was one to never turn down a trip to the casino, especially the penny slots, where she believed patience and a little Irish luck could outlast anything. She was sassy and funny. Peggy loved her family and friends with her whole heart.
She spent 20 years at Suffolk University as a jack-of-all-trades, a proud union worker, and a social butterfly who made lasting friendships wherever she went, including Johanny Mejia.
Beloved wife of the late John B. McQuaid and dear mother of Katherine M. Ramey of Randolph, Robert T. McQuaid of Dedham, Barbara A. Grieco of Dedham, John B. McQuaid Jr. of West Roxbury, and Paul F. McQuaid of Dedham.
Sister of Thomas Tarpey, Paddy Tarpey, Theresa Boyle, and Josephine Connolly, all of Ireland, and Mary Martin and Ann McEllen, both of England. She now joins her brothers and sisters who went before her, leaving behind her devoted sister, Josephine. She was a beloved and cherished aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
She was Nana Peggy to her 12 grandchildren Shannon, Amanda, Robert, Kaitlyn, Christopher, Ryan, Brandon, Connor, Eamonn, Aisling, Niamh, and Gabriel, and 13 great grandchildren, all of whom will carry her laughter, love, and colorful spirit with them.
She will be forever missed, but never far from the stories, songs, and laughter she left behind.
