IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman Wyman
Foster
May 19, 1937 – February 15, 2026
A lifetime resident of Jamaica Plain and long-time community member of the Woodbourne District, Norman Wyman Foster passed away on February 15th. He was a cherished neighbor, always there for others whether ferrying recyclables, shoveling cars out of snowbanks, or simply lending companionship ‘on the stoop’ on a warm eve. The only child of Irving Foster of New Brunswick, Canada and Edith Jackson of Lancashire, England, Norman was a devout family member throughout his mother’s and grandparents’ lives.
A graduate of Boston Latin, where he was a spelling bee champ, his love for words evolved into library work with Boston University from which he earned a BA. Norman was an ocean endurance swimmer and long-distance cyclist; he never failed in his athletic prowess. Upon moving from Wachusett Street, he spent his last five years at The Forbes Building engaging with or impressing his neighbors with daily 2–5-mile walks or regaling them with 1950s show tunes.
Norman gained a close alliance with his dear friends, Millie de Olio, Dale T. Wilson and other close neighbors while developing an affection for his full-time companions from Bright Star. He is survived by his beloved cousin, David H. Jackson and his family of Baltimore, MD.
We have lost a songbird, a gentleman and a dear friend. Norman will always be remembered for his informed mind, stimulating conversation and caring heart. In lieu flowers, please consider donating in his name to Ethos https://www.ethocare.org/donate/ or Meals on Wheels https://www.mealsonwheelsboston.org/. A memorial will be held in May.
