Rev Harry R. Mahoney

The Reverend Harry Robert Mahoney, a longtime resident of Dedham, died peacefully on May 20, 2025 at his home in Dedham.  He was 91. Harry was born July 30, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, the only child of John Herman and Barbara R. (Urquhart) Mahoney. He graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1951 where he sang with the Boy's Glee Club, was the President of the Dramatic Club for three years, and was a drummer in the Orchestra and the Dedham High School Band where he served as the band president in his senor year. Harry attended Boston University and earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Massachusetts.  Harry's first job was at the Eagle Brook School in Deerfield, Massachusetts and then spent the next 27 years as the Chaplain at the Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Hampshire, retiring in 1995. The Class of 1988 of the Cardigan School honored Harry by planting a tree in his honor in front of the school's chapel. He was also presented the Meritorious Service Award by Cardigan's Board of Trustees. Harry was a member of the Allin Congregational Church in Dedham. He was also a magician and a member of the Society of American Magicians.  Harry instituted magic clubs in both the schools where he was a chaplain. Friends are invited to attend visitation for Harry on Tuesday, June 3rd from 10-11 am at the Folsom Funeral Home, 87 Milton Street, Dedham followed by a Memorial Service in the funeral home at 11 am.  Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
